Resveratrol - Fad or Phenominal?

There are so many supplements out there, it can be overwhelming to anyone who wants to increase health and vitality but doesn't know where to begin.  Then, if you do buy something and try it, if you don't experience any increase in energy or feel differently, perhaps this new pill may be deemed a waste of money.

Part of this comes from our "instant" mentality.  And we are partly conditioned to "expect" change, compliments of the drug industry.  We expect the numbers to go down when we take blood pressure medicine, or cholesterol drugs.  We expect depression to go away, to have infections go away, fevers to come down, headaches to go away and all of this because we took a pill.  So I guess it is no surprise that most people shy away from supplementing with antioxidants, vitamins or herbs if they don't "feel" differently after taking them.

Resveratrol is rather like that.  Hubs and I tried it a few years ago.  He abandoned it.  He said he didn't feel it was "doing anything" for him.  I guess he expected some surge in energy?

Resveratrol works on a cellular level.  Unless you are really in tune with the cells in your body (face it, nobody really is) you may not know what a bonus to your cells that resveratrol can be.  It directly influences genetic expression to increase lifespan, lowers systemic inflammation to lower heart disease risk, it is a potent antioxidant, it has anti-inflammatory action and test showed it reduced clotting factors associated with stroke.  Hmmmm, a busy little pill eh?

So is Resveratrol just a buzz word?  A fad?  Certainly Dr. Mercola and Dr. Oz and others have given this supplement high praise.  When some hear that it comes from red grapes they may just increase their red wine consumption.  Thinking that drinking red wine daily will give you the same benefit is laughable.  You would have to consume gallons!  And who knows, maybe some people do that.  Resveratrol IS a good thing.  How you take it I suppose is up to you.  Being a fan of sobriety I prefer the pill form.

So are you going to get some "kick" from taking this supplement?  Doubtful that you will "feel" a thing.  Your cells will though, and I'm all about keeping my cells happy!  Resveratrol has been researched and studied and tested sufficiently for me.  If adding this to my daily routine of supplementation is going to increase my lifespan, well count me in!
