Yes it might as well be God Move Over when it comes to GMO foods. It is NOT making hybrids as the biotech industry started doing decades ago. Oh no. It has gone WAY beyond that and the long term health consequences aren't something the big Ag - or Monsanto - wants to deal with. Nor does the USDA or FDA! It is criminal what is going on.
Europeans, thanks to a media there that is more truthful than ours and not on the payroll or intimidation roll of big business, have learned about GMO's and they BANNED them. Why don't we? Because - as yet - not enough people are aware of the serious nature of them. You sure won't find it on the news in THIS country!
What is really interesting, speaking of pressures and influence? Wikileaks revealed that US diplomats were MORE than suggesting to their European governments, that they needed to reconsider allowing GMO's into their countries. There were a few that even threatened dire consequences to their government if they did not drop their ban on GMO's. How's that for some political intrigue? Money and greed are up to no good. And the tentacles of power are monsterously long and powerful.
I have said it before and I will continue to say it - we are no more than guinea pigs to the good old boys at the Food Industries, Monsanto, the USDA and FDA - all of whom are playing a very dangerous (to us) and INSANELY PROFITABLE (for them) game of roulette with this science.
Let's make 2011 the year we all stand up and say NO MORE to GMO's. You can learn more at Seedsofdeception.com or mercola.com or instituteofresponsibletechnology.com - I am in the process of receiving training to join Jeffrey Smiths speakers bureau putting on power point presentations to groups in my area with information on the whole GMO issue. It was startling information when I first learned of this a few years ago and I have been working and studying dilgently ever since. I want to help people make better food choices and be healthy. Eliminating GMO's is a big step in the right direction! Here is one (of dozens) video with basic GMO information. It sure doesn't stand for God Move Over - and yet these promoters are sure acting like they are God! How dare they! I feel confident God knew what he was doing with plants from the get go, don't you?
I find it amazing that we are forced to vaccinate our children and then we're poisoned from another source. Gee! I make sure I buy organic whenever possible. I'm lucky to be living in an area where it is readily available.
ReplyDeletethanks, SuZen!!!
Maryse
Hi Maryse! I'm constantly amazed at what is going on! Gone are the days you could trust in our government to protect us. Today they are a genuine part of the problems. I wish the lawmakers who just approved that bogus Food Safety Law had the time and inclination to really LOOK at the food industry - but perhaps all they see is the money to campaign the industries dole out for gauranteed loyalty. We are on our own to see thru the marketing and lies. God bless what is left of organic farming!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzen,
ReplyDeleteI read this post the other day and ended up going on a marathon - reading other posts about GMO foods, what brands are "safe" to eat, where I can find them, and how important it is to read the label on EVERYTHING, including personal hygiene products.
I find it frustrating when I think of how after all of these years and all of the regulations one would think our food is the safest on the planet, but instead I'm thinking my grandparents had the right idea - have a farm and grow your own (provided you use seeds which haven't been altered).
I also read we need to look for foods which say 100% organic since many can use the word "organic" but don't have to follow as rigorous testing.
You have your hands full with your new niche Suzen, but I know you'll do phenomenal.
Happy 2011 to you and yours!
Hi SuZen, do your manufacturers have to label goods to let you know if they contain GMO? Another thing that has happened in Britain is labelling has to be much more clear these days. A lot of manufacturers were hiding all sorts of baddies under non descriptive titles. I like Wifsie's idea - buy organic when you can, or even grow your own!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you.
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Hi Barbara! The Institute for Responsible Technology (responsibletechnology.org) has a GMO shopping list you can download. Scary looking at all the brands that now include GMO's in their manufacturing - be especially wary of cooking oils! Yes, I have my hands full alright!
ReplyDeleteBut LOVE it! Perfect job for a research junkie!
Hi Mandy! No we are hopelessly behind European countries with the whole label issue. The mfgrs. KNOW they if their products were labeled saying made with GMO's 90% of Americans wouldn't buy them. Huge lobbying going on here. It is up to every person to get knowlegable about GMO and boycott them the way Europe did. It's the only way to end this nonsense. We have a LONG way to go yet with this, unnfortunately. The apathy is hard to believe! People here just don't want to "give up" anything so they don't want to hear about it. YAY for Europe paying attention and caring! The truth in labeling here is a total cover-up - it doesn't exist!
ReplyDeleteHi SuZen .. thanks for this .. it is terrible how science constantly wants to reinvent things for our 'good'? Make up, skin creams and produce etc ..
ReplyDeleteBritain does pay attention .. but Europe is another ball game .. because how many of the new European nations are able to comply with the requirements .. it's putting our farmers out of business - because people want cheap food .. not necessarily good wholesome food which costs more.
swings and roundabouts with our lives .. I do consider myself lucky that I was brought up with fresh veg and fruit from our garden .. and we kept some meat .. and the fish man came to call on a Friday .... Fish and Chips yippee!!!
But it's great that you're highlighting these very serious issues .. and concerns .. and where do the viruses come from .. and of course they spread so easily .. via the global dash.
Good for you on your speaking engagements .. thanks for highlighting this for us again .. and again please!! Cheers and all the best for 2011 - Hilary
Yes Suzen, I agree that God knew what he was doing when He designed fruits, grains and veggies. Leave it to humankind to think they can improve on perfection by genetically modifying foods and spraying pesticides on them. It's really getting to the point where I wonder what, if anything, is actually good to eat anymore.
ReplyDeleteHi Hilary! My dad used to say "You get what you pay for!" Yes indeed people want to buy cheap stuff and I hear all the time "but I can't AFFORD organics!" Amazingly, it is not a big deal. Once you eliminate all the junk you have a bit more to spend on healthy stuff. Not to mention, Americans eat WAYYYY more food than is necessary to begin with. As always, thanks for your encouraging words!
ReplyDeleteHi Deedee! Yes it sure IS a bit arrogant of us to think we can improve on what was given to us! In so doing we also created more-itis, the disease of always wanting more! Real food is good, Deedee, nothing packaged/processed and organic if possible. Can't wait for spring to expand on my garden! Wish I still lived on the farm!
Thanks for continuing to beat the drum, suZen. This reminds me again that our country has been taken over by big business. They own a huge portion of the wealth and the truly evil thing is that by doing so, a great many people are struggling to make ends meet. So they have neither the money to buy organic foods nor the time to learn about what healthy food really is. It's so insidious. But I can just see you up there with your power point presentation! If anyone can change it, you can. So you go!
ReplyDeleteHi Patty! Thanks for the continued support and encouragement. All I can do is present the facts. I also want to start putting meal plans together with organic foods for all those who say they cannot afford them. That just is not true anymore. Meijer stores have their own organic brand of many items canned - less cost than health food stores. Once people eliminate the stuff (processed and junk) and learn to eat less to begin with, they can actually see that to go organic is no big deal! I'll start throwing in some posts on this.
ReplyDeleteHi SuZen,
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a service by keeping this issue in the forefront. I know you have been after me to talk about it and I will, but to be honest I find it greatly depressing. It is a worrisome topic.
Hi Paul! I know what you are saying! On the other hand, if we let the GMO's completely dominate our food supply we are lambs being led to slauter! We have an opportunity RIGHT NOW to get educated, know which products to avoid and STOP buying them! Nothing speaks louder than money/profits to these huge companies. It is our only way to get thru to them so I say use it and do it and get as many people as we can to join in this consumer driven, grass roots campaign. At the very least we may accomplish truth in labeling. How refreshing eh? I'm as proactive as you can be - we, together, can do this!
