I don't know just how scientifically relevant this is, but since there is so much controversy over whether cell phones are dangerous or not, perhaps this video says something! I don't know --- what do you think?

Shaking Up The Status Quo - New "Stuff"
There is nothing like a change of seasons to bring with it a whole new list of "stuff"! Seems like the past 30 years or so, May has been a month of relentless activity for me. I used to think it was because the kids were winding down the year at school and there were concerts/programs at school to attend, summer clothes to buy (why did they always outgrow LAST years?) summer trips to plan and just a flurry of this stuff I call "STUFF".
The kids have been gone from the nest for years now, and yet my May hasn't slowed down one iota! As I write this I am preparing for a grand kick off to summer o May 1st going to Arlington Race Track for the Kentucky Derby. From then on it will only FEEL like a race track for the next few months. Whether I win-place-or show by September is anyone's guess, but May is just the beginning of this race called Summer.
I will be up at the lake house for the Month of May setting up the new kitchen, painting walls and woodwork and in general redecorating the remodel. If my comments on your blogs are not as regular, please do not think I've quit on you - DSL up north is sketchy for me at best and I've pre-scheduled my own blog and will get to comments maybe once a week. I'm still HERE but the summer season - and I'm sure yours is too - a "different" kind of outdoorsy, busy and/or intentionally restful time. Whatever you do, I hope your days are filled with love and joy! (Remember to put that on your list!) Although I will be physically really busy, I do find such joy in the transformation of paint on walls. I'm re-nesting, sort of.
June will be doing what I didn't get done in May - haha! Ending with our first guests and continuing with that bed and breakfast feel for the next two months. I love it all!
Here, at Erasing, there will regular posts, phenomenal guest bloggers, book reviews, and much joy! What I'd like to know from all of YOU is kind of a survey - it would be good for me to know from my readers just what they enjoy the most about Erasing The Bored. What type of posts do YOU prefer? Seriously. Tell me! The reason I ask is there is something afloat it appears - not just me, but several bloggers I know - who are shifting content and intentions. While I've always been a rather unpredictable, spontaneous blogger, not wanting to fit in to any "niche", my passion and what I am currently studying feel like a shift coming.
And so..............?

Earth Day - Make it EVERYDAY!
.
Today is Earth Day! I don't know why it only gets ONE day but hopefully it will refresh our intentions, if nothing else, to get serious about this planet we call home. I'm am giving this post more than one day because it deserves it! And also because I'm jiggling my schedule around a bit - always good to get out of set ruts etc.
Here are just a few reminders of things that we can do to stop the pollution and waste that is going on.
Use reuseable shopping bags - stop using the store's plastic ones.
Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.
Use a thermos instead of buying water in plastic bottles.
Recycle as much as possible.
Limit the amount of area devoted to grass - try planting ground covers, native shrubs or add rock gardens.
Inspect, clean or replace filters in your furnace and airconditioning units.
Insulate your attic.
Don't place lamps or tv sets near your thermostats.
Use public transportation or walk, ride bikes, whenever possible.
Purchase recycled items as often as possible.
Donate, don't throw away in the garbage, your old clothes and shoes.
Don't throw away old stale bread and crackers - feed the birds!
There are so many websites with information on how to live a greener life it's not even funny! Check one out since my list is anything but extensive!
I'm trying a veggie garden again this year. Last years "crop" was an embarrassment to this former farm girl! I think the cost per tomato or cuke was about $9.95! Not exactly what I had in mind here but I had to buy fencing, stakes etc. so it was an initial outlay I should not have to repeat. I HAD planned on starting a small compost pile but I will be up at the lake so much this summer that it probably wouldn't work.
I hope you enjoy the video below - there are just a FEW of the reasons we need to stop being lazy about our habits and make some significant changes - NOW! You CAN make a difference - together we can all change the direction of the path of destruction we are on - Mother Earth! Gotta love her!
What changes have you RECENTLY made? You know you can always add to the list of things you do (the green things) - there is always MORE you can do. And speaking of green things - do make sure you eat at least one green thing each day! And please don't count lettuce. As crunchy and refreshing it is, there aren't many nutrients in lettuce - push yourself to find another green thing!:)

The One Word Self-Destroyer
I am sorry the video for the weekend didn't work! Stuff happens. I saved myself the technical angst about posting pictures from vacation today and skipped doing it at all since they aren't that great, and life goes on! I want to thank Megan for the lovely trip to her blog last week and thanks to all of you who came over there to comment!
On to today's topic ----- and some positive energy!
There is an enemy in your thinking that prevents you from moving forward, changing, trying new things, learning, having adventures and in general just NOT growing! It is one word.
Can't.
Do you know this one? I'm sure. We all are. It slips out so unconsciously most of the time we don't even realize that over time, that word, that attitude of can't is really destructive.
My father never allowed the word "can't" to be used in our home. Growing up I thought he was cruel to say that I had to re-think, re-phrase and eliminate the entire concept of can't. I had to TRY everything. I was busy! Trying things takes time and energy. But try I did. I knew if I said "can't" within ear shot, I'd be put to the test. "Don't say you can't do something if you haven't TRIED!" he would say.
Then I become a parent. The word "can't" was not allowed in our house either. (Funny how that goes, isn't it?) I became so sensitive to this issue any time I heard people using that word it was like fingernails on a chalk board - or for those of you too young to remember those ancient classroom accessories - how about the screech of a smoke alarm?
I taught a journal writing class for years. I heard a lot of can't this and can't that. "I can't write." or "I can't find time." or "I can't get organized." ad nauseum. I read that saying cannot is the equivalent of saying I will not. I wonder if people realize the power and energy of their thoughts, let alone what choice of words they use that further affect their energy?
Using the word bored is the sister of the word can't. Bored people will say "I can't think of anything to do, write, paint...... etc." Yes you can! Perhaps you don't like the choices or chores in front of you, would rather not do them and instead flip into boreds and can'ts. For whatever reason you are stuck in a negative track in your brain, unmotivated or gee golly whiz you could be all wound up in fears being disguised as anything but the fear it really IS. We all have deep tracks of negative thinking that we can so easily (unconsciously) slip into. It takes a conscious effort to change that. Ah, that word change again! And how many times have you heard people say "I can't change."?
Maybe it's time for some change. Not a complete mental make-over but just a tweak in the thinking and speaking department. Try to eliminate the word, and the thinking, of can't for one week. If you hear someone else say it, see if you can gently perform an intervention in their negative thinking. It is always easier to see things in others we do not see (or want to see) in ourselves.
This small step in eliminating the can't is a big part of Motivation 101. Oh, and that brings up a favorite I hear a LOT - "I can't get motivated!" Wow - double whammy!
I have a dear friend who I have teased to bits for being the absolute Queen of I Can'ts. Over the years she has actually DONE countless things, little things and big, that she formerly said she could not do. I remind her of this in an effort to get her to throw the darn crown away! Her can'ts kept her from soooo many experiences, so much living! Do you know people like this? Or are you one yourself? Can you see the power - negative, destructive and limiting - the word can't has if you use it and believe it?
Let's start some real spring cleaning right in our heads - ban the can't. Please share your thoughts on can't - do you have your own cure for it?

How to handle Telemarketers - Funniest EVER video
A friend of mine sent this to me and I thought it was one of the funniest pranks on a telemarketer EVER! I will admit I've gone the short route on this by saying "I'm sorry, the person you are calling is deceased so please remove this number from your call list." But how I would LOVE to do this one!
Hope your weekend is full of sunshine and giggles!

No Limits Thinking
.
A favorite topic of mine - but this video is about a no limits thinking dog. Now I have trained my little dog to walk on the treadmill with me - but this is really something else. Hope you enjoy and share in my awe of this!
Have a great weekend!

nadia
Today I am on vacation (see the weekend video if you want to know where!) and I am sooo excited to have Nadia from The Happy Lotus here posting and babysitting my blog. She is one of the most genuinely warm and wonderful people I have ever met, in the blogosphere or anywhere! My most major hugs of thanks to her for taking over Erasing this week!
Don’t Ever Apologize For Who You Are
By Nadia Ballas-Ruta
Two months ago, I met up with a high school friend for coffee. We got to talking about things and then she made the comment about how she envied me. The minute she said those words, the energy in the room seemed to fall flat and I found myself apologizing to her about what I had achieved.
It was not an outright apology but rather a downplaying of things. This is not the first time I have done such a thing which immediately made me wonder why did I feel so compelled to apologize?
This question was on the forefront of my mind for days. I realized that my friend said what she said because she was looking at the end result of what I had accomplished. She had not seen the hard work it took to get to this point in my life.
Life is a process and achievement does not occur over night. It is earned and sometimes it takes a lot to earn something that you desire. Perseverance, effort and determination are traits that we in society do not talk much about but they are essential for any success; whether it is at home or at work or in life.
After fear, envy is an emotion that keeps people stuck. By envying another person you are basically saying that you do not love your life and who you are. You have no idea what it is like to walk in the shoes of the other person. All you see is the end result but if you knew the journey to get to that point, would you still want what they have? The answer may be yes or it may be no.
So this takes me back to the topic of apologizing. Women seem to do this more than men. I have yet to see men apologize for being who they are as much as I see women doing it.
There is no need to desire or envy another human being. Every single one of us has things that are worthy of being respected. We all have talents and skills. We all have a life of meaning and purpose. Embrace who you are. Don’t envy another person and by all means, don’t apologize for who you are.
If there are things about yourself which you do not love, then work on it. But don’t feel bad for who you are at this moment in time. We are all works in progress. We all are trying to find our way. None of us are perfect. Sometimes we need to accept who we are in order to move forward.
One of the most beautiful things in life is that there are no set formulas for what makes someone happy or successful. We each have our own definition. Find your definition and go for it with what you got.
Love yourself and don’t waste time comparing yourself to another person. There is no need to do such a thing. You were created by the most powerful force in the world and that force is love. Love does not create misery…it creates beauty. So shine like the diamond you are meant to be!

Where in the World is SuZen???
.
Well, assuming hubs managed to keep me drugged enough to fly, I SHOULD be on the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos as you read this. I put on a quick one minute video of where that is - officially in the Caribbean 1 1/2 hr. flight out of Miami. If I was IN this video, I'd be the mama on the beach with a huge floppy hat, covered head to toe in sunscreen with a pile of books and a pina colada - or maybe a pile of pina coladas and one book! I'll never tell!
I have a marvelous guest blogger/blogbabysitter for Monday so the fun at Erasing the Bored keeps on rolling. And I'm just SURE I'll have travel tales to tell when I get back - well, depending on the consumption of pina coladas!
Ciao for now!
