I've written about GMO's before - this month, in fact this DAY as I write this - 10-10-10 is the day chosen to really spread the word! Lots of websites, including Dr. Mercola.com are bringing awareness to this and asking people to link up to friends on Facebook, Twitter and do whatever you can to make information available. I'm simply joining in and doing my part.
I will assume you know that GMO's are genetically engineered foods. Perhaps you are not aware that all of Europe BANNED GMO's 10 years ago. It wasn't the government, it was the PEOPLE who spoke up. Food manufacturers listened! They accomplished in Europe what we have either been unwilling or unable to do here. Shame shame on us! How can we be so apathetic to our food? American's aren't stupid people but by golly we have been duped and kept quiet by the powers that be, the biotech industry and government, who seem to have a problem with the truth! It isn't profitable! Well, come on, folks, let's show them we aren't going to remain passively ignorant. This is sure not a time to go with the flow!
Jeff Smith has been working for 15 years to bring this to light, speaking everywhere, writing books, alerting people with the TRUTH, talking to the medical profession, who believe it or not have been very receptive!
Here is what Dr. Mercola's site said:
"This month, Jeffrey's organization, Institute for Responsible Technology, is launching a plan to bring their message to the necessary numbers of people to create a tipping point that can effectively drive GM foods off the market. Nearly 400 retail stores selling natural products around the country are already actively promoting the information about choosing healthier non-GMO products.
I'm thrilled to be part of this movement, and I strongly urge you join us.
The Institute for Responsible Technology (IRT) has created a variety of tools that will make it easier for you to choose non-GM foods, and this is the way to eradicate GMO's from your local store. If no one wants to buy them, stores can't sell them, and will simply stop ordering them. Food manufacturers will have to adjust and quickly change their ingredients or risk losing their business.
It's really that simple!
Remember, you as a consumer is still at the top of the food chain."
There is a non-GMO shopping list available on the IRT's website. Get it. Use it. We DO have some power and say in what food(s) we eat by making smart choices. It is way past the time that we can naively shop for food. If Europe was conscious enough to outlaw GMO's from THEIR food supply, can't we do this too? This is so critical it is not an option to care or not care about this!
Because the bio-tech industry is so powerful, to date they are not labeling their GMO crap. We need to demand that they do so we can make choices. Most people said they would not chose GMO foods IF they were labeled! Of course the industry knows this, hence they are fighting to not label! And if you think you are not eating GMO food, you had best get the shopping list from IRT's website! I found so many items (brands) of foods that include GMO products that I was appalled! You can print out this list for yourself and then get prepared to clean out your pantry!
Tweet this. Facebook this. It is NOT about increasing my stats - you should know this if you've been reading my blog lately. I am doing what I can to provide information that you NEED to know! How many people can you reach?
Great article and so true!!! It's time we all spoke up and come together to demand the way food is produced, shipped, packaged, made, distributed, etc. etc...... If we ate what God created the way it was created heck we wouldn't need health insurance!!! It's all connected - it always is!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings for writing this!
I was so unaware...Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy! You are SO right - if we would just eat real God-made foods for sure we wouldn't need health insurance. Let's show the food industry that we are waking up! Making well-informed intelligent food choices at the store would do wonders for this movement as well as our health!
ReplyDeleteHi Tabitha! I'm so glad you found this informative. There sure is a whole world of information on this topic and I invite you to check it out for your own health and well being. We consumers CAN do something about this!
ReplyDeleteHi SuZen .. You are right .. but I think over here we still have tests going on .. and I'm not sure Eastern Europe as was .. is quite so concerned about GMOs .. however - we do need to learn what's good for us .. and eat healthy food from the land .. and not factorised homogenised junk ..
ReplyDeleteThanks .. we need to spread the word .. Hilary
Hi Hilary! Hey at least they are testing somewhere - not here tho! We are just told it is safe and has been tested. If you get into the research and tests that WERE done, rats got tumors or outright died after eating GMO potatoes. They put a gag order on the scientist and it took an issue from the House of Parliament to give him permission to speak out - and speak out he has!
ReplyDeleteI am afraid I have become lazy with this issue because I eat vegan raw from a local farm and shop only at my Food Cooperative which banned GMO foods years and years ago...
ReplyDeleteI forget to share this information...and this is a good reminder...I pity the children who are being fed this awful stuff at schools...I need to get louder
I am horrified whenever I see the girls in my 12 year old stepson's class. They are fully developed, and I am sure started their periods very early. The growth hormones in food, and 'estrogen' in plastics has so much to do with this. Thanks for the list. I am off to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia! Yes we all need to get louder! This issue should not be taking so long to get done. It would be nice if our media wasn't so controlled by the powers that be! Do what you can to inform people!
ReplyDeleteHi Eliza! There is reason for this early "development" and you've hit on it. The hormones in non-organic milk itself will do it! Do get the list and do pass this on! Thanks so much!
Suzen -- Thanks for this information. You are right if people join together, it can make a very big difference, especially in the advertising and marketing business. Look at how some things have changes and we now have access to organically grown vegies and meats (well hopefully organic):~)
ReplyDeleteHoping this will post, as I just got a Blogger error notice...
ReplyDeleteTrying again, forgive if redundant.
Yes, I will be very happy to tweet and FB this tonight over wine and spaghetti bolognaise.
No GMOs!!
xoxo
I have downloaded the shopping list (thank you!), and checked my products against it. I shared this on Facebook, too. I like that I'm starting to make more informed decisions each week after reading your blog, as well as Evita's. My body's never been happier!
ReplyDeleteHi Sara! You're right - we can definitely make a difference by speaking up and demanding changes. I'm often feeling sad that people do have the knowledge but don't say anything - you know, passive acceptance and that sort of thing. We need to get loud!
ReplyDeleteHi Jannie! Thanks for all you can do to get this out there! Power to the people, eh?
Hi Megan! So glad you have the list! YAY. Wasn't it amazing how many foods have GMO's in them? We must put an end to this sneaky stuff and make them label their crap and make it a lot easier for folks. Apparently people don't want to take the time or make the effort to care about what they eat - that's sad - but yet they say they wouldn't eat GMO's! They are already!
Hello again, power indeed to the great many.
ReplyDeleteBB sends "mutch love"
xo
I have totally forgotten to Tweet and FB this, let me go now see if I can do that! The spirit is willing, and hopefully my way around technology will be too.
ReplyDeleteWish me great luck!
xoxo
Yay, I FB'ed this! But Twitter says it's over capacity.
