Michael Pollan on Food

Now you didn't think for a minute I was through with videos and blogs on the food issues we are facing did you?  Just cuz I'm up at the lake, and not watching as carefully as I usually do, I need to sneak in these reminders - did you eat something green and REAL today?  (I'm not meaning frogs).

Enjoy the weekend!

  1. Hi Suzen,
Love this one (esp. about milk changing the color of cereal). Really, though, I agree so much - that the food we eat is the cause of so many of the health-related problems we have.

  2. Hi Lance! Awareness is key but I find as I'm getting more into this that people know but don't make the changes they need to make to prevent health problems. Sadly those people I do know that eat really healthy, do so because they got ill or got cancer.

Hi Beth! Me too. I'm a Pollan groupie! ha!

  3. Ahhh, just ate a big ole bowl of bad cereal. I never do that.

I'm trying to not eat very much and to stick to the organic and raw, because I want to live longer, but sometimes I can't help but be a rebel.

FYI: you are listed on my blogroll because I love you like that.

  4. Hi SuZen .. how true .. I'd add that we were better fed because we ate food from the land .. I'm sure that's why we live longer .. I'm sure the next generation will not be so lucky, and the ones after that - the junk food generation .. I hate to think!

That was a great clip - thanks .. Hilary

  5. Want a happier, healthier, more honest relationship with food? Try this little trick. Every single time you reach for something that isn't healthy, calculate how long it will take you to enjoy it - it will only be a few minutes. Then, calculate the amount of time you'll spend feeling bad, complaining about your figure and/or fitness, fidgeting in ill fitting clothes, obsessing about health and weight, sleeping badly, etc. I think you find that each minute of food related pleasure comes at the cost of at least 10 minutes of food related misery. If it's still worth it to you after doing that calculation.....enjoy!!

  6. After reading the words of people like him, you, Barbara Kingsolver I so admire the organic farmer who kept old pure species alive so that once we got our sanity back we still had untampered seeds to grow nature's true food from. The things we have been doing to our food are crazy beyond belief and some people have known that AND did something about it for US, who were so ignorant. Keep socking it to us, and I am pleased to eat well myself again.
I am pleased you are still caring for our health even while you are full on painting. Much appreciated, xox Wilma

  7. Hi Jillian! Oops - cereal? Hey every once in awhile I'll eat something I know is crap just to get it over with! haha! It's been interesting being alone at the lake house - but I'm cooking for myself, juicing and no lazy fast foods....yet!

Hi Hilary! I'm sure you are right. I'm doing my best to try and teach the younger generation what REAL food is - which is why I'm in school right now getting certified in natural health/nutrition. Nothing like a late-in-life all new "career" eh? I LOVE it!

Hi H & W! That's really an interesting idea. I just finished a living body chemistry class - that was more than enough to keep me eating well!

Hi Wilma! Ain't no way of shutting me up about healthy foods - ha! Just wait til I'm done with school! I think where you live there is a lot less garbage junk food, no? No GMO farming?
